100% success rate for 30 PSDS Funding

Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) and academies rightly want to lead the way in slashing use of fossil fuels because fighting climate change is so important to their students.

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) provides grants that can help MATs and academies become greener through carbon-saving energy schemes.

In the latest round of PSDS funding, S2e achieved a 100% funding success rate, for over 30 schools and academies, resulting in the following carbon saving achievements.

Our 100% success rate has meant hundreds of schools are now on their way to being fossil fuel free and reducing their carbon footprint to help tackle climate change.

If your school still uses fossil-fuel boilers which are over 11 years old, you are eligible to receive funding for the cost of replacing them with an environmentally friendly alternative.

The government sees this as an ideal opportunity to encourage transition to low-carbon heating.

Grants have been allocated to measures that decarbonise part or all the heating within a building. As the scheme has a “whole building” approach, technologies such as Solar PV or LED lighting have been included if they support the heat project.

The fund has offered grants up to a maximum of £5 million per application for projects that reduce non-traded emissions with no minimum sum. Applicants have been able to use their own funds to top up a project and MATs have been able to apply for a number of sites.

The PSDS has been running since autumn 2020 in three phases with more than £2.5 billion allocated in total for carbon-saving energy schemes in public sector buildings.

Phase 4 is expected to open in the Autumn.

The application process is complex, however. Applicants have to provide comprehensive supporting documentation describing the project and what technologies will be used, as well as a delivery plan setting out a financial profile of how funding will be drawn down over the lifetime of a project.

Expert chartered surveyors such as Surveyors to Education can assist in all these areas.
