Rob joined Surveyors to Education (S2e) in January 2024, drawn particularly by the work the company does with estate strategy planning and government funding streams for educational facilities.

He studied for an HNC in Construction Management at the University of Kent and is an associate with the Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). He worked in London & Kent for ten years before moving to S2e. “It was quite a big move to leave Kent and come up to join S2e from their East Anglia office but from the very beginning I was struck by what a friendly bunch everyone is,” he says.

Role at Surveyors to Education

As an Architectural Technologist, Rob ensures the design and detailed work is compiled in the lead up to a project going on to site; and ensuring the smooth running of the job whilst being constructed.  

Following on from his past experience across education, residential and commercial projects; Rob has a blended role as both an Architectural Technologist and Project Manager. “I enjoy putting the gritty details together and ensuring we provide safe, robust structures,” Rob says. “At S2e there is the added focus to ensure clients get true value for money through the use of efficient systems and practical solutions.”

Rob enjoys being involved in client meetings to gain a clear insight of what they would like to achieve from the development and the project needs, understanding their goals to ensure the building suits their requirements. “To see the response from clients; knowing how we’re really helping them out and how grateful they are is very rewarding” he says.

Focus on RAAC

Alongside working on various school refurbishments and extensions; Rob has been involved with several RAAC remediation projects since he joined S2e. “We have really been able to help schools that could be in a potentially dangerous situation, resolving the problem and keeping the schools running as they should be. Logistics can be difficult times; isolating areas and the use of temporary classrooms, but S2e has the expertise to make sure this all runs as smoothly as possible due to their wealth of experience.”

Innovation

Looking ahead Rob is enthused by S2e’s strong pipeline of projects and the prospect of working on some innovative designs, particularly making the most of his knowledge and experience of 3D modelling. Rob is assisting the company with implementing some new systems and standards and the strength of S2e’s architectural offer is continually growing. “I’m definitely in the right place at the right time,” Rob says.
