The Joseph Whitaker School: Modular Science Labs Prove Best Value

Modular science labs prove best value

Timeline

  • April 2020: Discussions begin, at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic

  • May 2020: Planning application submitted

  • End 2020: S2e tenders for the £1.3 million project

  • January 2021: Construction underway on site

  • Easter 2021: Work complete – on time and on budget

Best Value for Money

After we received Section 106 funding from our local authority to build new science labs, the question was how to achieve the best value for money.

S2e suggested modular buildings – high quality, energy efficient, quick to install and cheap to run.

As a result we have been able to meet our growing demand for classroom spaces, as well as providing a brighter, inspiring environment for teaching and learning.

Successful Collaboration

Thanks to S2e’s expertise, a smooth construction process with minimal site disruption and fast turnaround delivered four modular science labs with highly insulated cladding panels, double-glazed curtain walls and fume cupboards for chemistry experiments.

The building, including dedicated space for lab technicians, was designed in collaboration with our Head of Science and Headteacher and fully fitted out to offer pupils exceptional facilities.

S2e even identified an electricity problem, redistributing the school’s supply so the labs would have adequate power – something that less-experienced project managers might have missed.

The Outcome

Pupils and science teachers are now working in optimum surroundings, while we can look forward to lower ongoing maintenance costs, reduced CO2 emissions and labs that will last for decades.
