S2e were the Estates & Facilities Zone Headline Sponsor at this groundbreaking virtual event that was attended by over 1,200 senior leaders from the MAT space. The Lionheart Academies Trust is located in Leicestershire and now comprises 11 academies and educates over 9,500 pupils. It has grown rapidly since becoming a MAT in 2013 with all the schools that joined experiencing significant estates issues.

Kath, Roger and Roy’s presentation was titled, ‘EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION: How development of Estates has been pivotal in our success’, and covered the following key areas:

  1. The importance of a good learning environment
The Lionheart Academies Trust strongly believe that their learning environment has contributed towards an improvement in educational outcomes and helped shape a change in teaching pedagogy, student attitudes, behaviour and achievement.

  2. The importance of good relationships
Once they became an academy and a MAT, their ability to borrow from the LA ceased and they needed to quickly become effective in forming relationships and accessing capital funding.

This has led to the following achievements

    • £9m of funding linked to PSB2

    • £3.7m of Section 106 funding

    • £3.9m of CIF bid success
