Supporting student sport beyond our school partnerships

S2e proudly contributes to the Young People Hardship Fund

S2e is committed to improving educational environments and opportunities for all students, whether by partnering with schools, colleges and MATs across the country to enhance their education estates, or through direct funding initiatives that help young people thrive.

That’s why we’re proud to support Active Together’s Young People Hardship Fund, which provides grants to enable students to access sport and physical activity. By championing initiatives that foster healthy lifestyles both within and outside the school environment, we aim to give every child the opportunity to learn a life skill such as swimming and develop a healthy mind and body.

Young People Hardship Fund

The Young People Physical Activity & Sport Hardship Fund provides financial support to young people in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland who cannot afford to participate in sport. Grants can be made from the fund to cover a range of expenses, including:

  • The cost of membership fees or the purchase of kit or equipment required to participate in sport of physical activity

  • The cost of coaching or officiating courses or qualifications

  • Transport or other costs that prevent young people from volunteering their time for sport or physical activity

  • Travel costs, equipment and associated costs of competing in Regional, National or International competitions.

The impact of our funding for young people

Donations to the fund are allocated following two rounds of applications, the second of which closed on March 2nd. The first round received 99 applications totalling £83,145, and 68% of the grants were made to applicants eligible for free school meals.

Such funding can have a huge impact on students. For example, S2e supported grants to help young people access swimming lessons – giving them a life skill as well as exercise and confidence. One parent happily remarked:

“It’s been a huge privilege for us, as the children did not know how to swim but since the funding they have even moved up a stage and my 8 year old can now swim in short lengths and my 6 year old now has the confidence to even go in the water.”

Lizzi Hall, Development Officer at Active Together, is delighted with the funding support provided by S2e:

“Without the Young People Physical Activity and Sport Hardship Fund, many of these young people wouldn’t have been able to afford the costs involved in taking part in sport and physical activity. In addition to the positive benefits of keeping fit and healthy, the fund has also helped young people to learn new skills and build their confidence and self-esteem. We really appreciate the support from Surveyors to Education, enabling even more young people to benefit from the fund.”

New and improved school sports halls

We understand the importance of sports for young people. This is why we offer MAT and Academy Sports Facility Assessments. Through high quality sports facilities such as sports halls, gymnasiums and multi-use games areas (MUGAs), MATs and academies can offer extra-curricular activities to improve pupil health, and even extend evening and weekend usage to support a healthier local community.

S2e has developed a complete Sports Hall Service, taking advantage of our in-house architects to drive down costs and optimise delivery of new sports halls. We help you apply for funding and manage the entire process from start to finish. If you’d like to know more about our Sports Hall packages, or how we can work with you to build your education estate please contact us today.
