Meet Phil Marlow, S2e’s Principal Health and Safety Consultant
Phil joined S2e in January 2024 after working in various Health and Safety roles, most recently for a builder’s merchant managing the health and safety of their minor refurbishments to larger new build sites. Previously to a career in Health and Safety, Phil was responsible for shipping all manner of goods all over the world, including for London 2012.
“Joining S2e was a breath of fresh air and I have been impressed by the knowledge and diverse skills and services the team offers. The company is also growing and just had this gut feeling this would be a great place to work,” Phil says.
Role at S2e
As Principal Health and Safety Consultant, Phil’s remit runs from supporting S2e’s building surveyors with their projects to preparing and reviewing H&S documents and drawings; he can be out on construction sites doing audits and is excited to be developing the H&S consultancy services for our existing and new clients. “We can now offer our clients value added services such as fire risk assessments and a fire safety portal to help clients manage their estate, with a lot more to come” he says.
S2e has the agility to move fast when needed. When a client has had a CIF (Condition Improvement Fund) application accepted, Phil can work swiftly to ensure the preconstruction information is prepared for the client and building surveyors. He works across the broad sweep of S2e projects from replacement windows or doors to building entire new classroom blocks, ensuring each is given the appropriate time and correct planning to reduce (or better avoid) any project risks.
Value for clients
Working closely with the existing teams at S2e, Phil is building on what S2e already does well to bring greater efficiency to we manage H&S in our projects, always thinking both in the short term for immediate project needs but also in the long term for the pupils and staff who will be using a building for years to come.

Variety of projects
“What is fascinating at S2e is that I’m discovering a different way of building because of the company’s expertise in modular buildings. Some of these come in quite elaborate layouts over multiple storeys, and to the untrained eye you would not think they are modular.” Phil says.
Pivotal at S2e is the company’s commitment to working to accommodate the clients’ needs, whether that is fitting around the schedule of a busy school day or safeguarding requirements.
Looking ahead
“S2e has had some clients for many years and I am looking forward to developing those relationships further with our new services,” Phil says. “They already know we do great modular buildings, sports halls and more, but we can also assist with their H&S compliance and governance, procedures and ongoing maintenance of their buildings. We can be with them for the whole building life until their school needs to evolve again in the future.”
