The 2020 - 2021 CIF fund will provide funding of over £600m for 2,056 projects at 1,243 academies, sixth-form colleges and non-diocesan voluntary aided schools.

The appeals round for CIF 2020 to 2021 will take place in September 2020. Appeals will be for those applicants that can demonstrate that a material error has been made in the assessment of their application.

The new criteria for CIF 20-21

In October 2019, the ESFA published new guidance for the Condition Improvement Fund 2020 to 2021. In it they specified new criteria that they would be evaluating applicants against.

The main headline was that they would favour bids from applicants with good governor and financial management given their belief that there is a strong link between those Academy Trusts with a good handle on their finances and cost effective, efficient capital delivery.

To that end they would penalise or reward bids depending on their performance in the following areas:

• Excessive Executive Pay (EEP)

• School Resource Management Advisor Visits (SRMA)

• Financial Visibility and Governance Concerns

• Funding Agreements

Weighted Scores

CIF applications are always oversubscribed and this year the overall pot of CIF funding available has shrunk by 3% to £438m. Is therefore important that your bids are in line with the guidelines provided by the ESFA.
